EYES OF DAWN — Synopsis & Background

    Amid the brutal closing chapters of World War II, a young woman forced into military sexual slavery and a Korean student forced into the Imperial Japanese Army collide in occupied Asia, sparking a high-stakes story of survival, love, humanism, and geopolitical betrayal across the Pacific War.

Short Synopsis

Yoon Yeo-ok: A seventeen-year-old Korean girl. She was forced to become a comfort woman for the Imperial Japanese Army. She comes across Daech while serving his troops invading China. This plain and innocent girl character transforms into a strong woman figure of survival through the Pacific War, the Liberation, the division of Korea, and the Korean War.   

 

Choi Daechi: A passionate, fiercely resilient Korean student drafted into the Japanese Army survives bullying and racism. But he was forced to carry out atrocities against Chinese civilians. He falls in love with Yeo-ok in China, but soon his platoon leaves for the Battle of Imphal. After he nearly died in the battle, but he was rescued by Mao Zedong's secret agent in the Eighth Route Army. Gradually, he was transformed into a communist. 

 

Jang Harim: A sophisticated, highly educated Korean intellectual who is drafted into the Japanese military medical corps. Harim secretly despises Japanese imperialism and operates with calculated intelligence, positioning himself to aid resistance and Allied efforts. Later joins the OSS with Yeo-ok and completes many missions successfully, but faces communist Daechi. While working as a medic in Saipan, he finds Yeo-ok pregnant with Daechi's baby. During the treatment, he finds his sympathy gradually turns into love.
